DGCA CPL Examinations in India: Subjects Explained
A guide to Air Regulations, Meteorology, Navigation, Technical General, Technical Specific and how these subjects fit into CPL preparation.
DGCA CPL examinations are a major part of professional pilot training in India. A structured study plan can help candidates balance theoretical study with flight training.
Air Regulations
Air Regulations covers the regulatory and operational framework relevant to pilots. Focus on understanding rules, responsibilities, procedures and terminology.
Aviation Meteorology
Met covers the atmosphere and the weather information pilots use. Important areas include pressure, temperature, stability, clouds, fronts, visibility, winds, icing, thunderstorms and weather charts.
Air Navigation
Navigation combines theory and calculations. Candidates should practise time, distance, speed, headings, bearings, chart work, position information and navigation systems.
Technical General
Technical General develops broad aircraft knowledge, including engines, aerodynamics, flight controls, instruments, electrical systems, fuel systems and other aircraft systems.
Technical Specific
Technical Specific focuses on the applicable aircraft or technical syllabus. Use current approved technical material and the examination guidance relevant to your pathway.
RTR
RTR is a separate radio telephony qualification/examination pathway. Plan its preparation alongside, rather than confusing it with, the core CPL theoretical subjects.
How to study
- Understand concepts before repetition.
- Keep an error log.
- Use current study material.
- Practise under timed conditions.
- Verify regulatory information against official sources.
